Stay at home for vacation.

This week our family has had a "stay at home for vacation" week.  I took a couple days off work which works out to give me about 7 days off in a row!  We have had a great time.

Sunday, after church, we celebrated 3 birhdays at our home. My dear mother-in-law and our dear friends, the Lee Family had birthday's the same week.  One party to honor all.

Monday, we went to my dad's place and played "AIR SOFT" in his woods with our boys.  For those not familiar with "AIR SOFT", it's a game you play with replica "guns" designed to "shoot" small plastic pellets.  You "shoot" at each other playing games such as "capture the flag" or "guard the fort".

Tuesday, we drove down to Rocky Fork State Park.  We surveyed the park as a possible future camping site.  We decided that we still preferred Hueston Woods State Park for camping.  Anyway, we hiked and had a picnic then hiked some more.  For what it's worth, Rocky Fork is the place to go if you are BOATERS, NOT HIKERS.  The Lake is good sized for fishing, boating and that kind of thing.  Since we are not in that catagory, it was a good time , but not our "best" day.  We brought pizza and a movie home for that evening.  We watched the "Astronaught Farmer".  Good story.  Had some language we could have done without.  I did like the movie.

Wednesday, we went out to the local skate board park.  We spent the morning there and then went to the public library.  After a few hours there, our hunger overtook us and we had a late lunch at Taco-Bell.  We then went home and played a new board game.  After that we played MADDEN NFL '05 on the PS2.  Then we watched a few episodes of "The Waltons" (season 2) and had Rainbow sherbert and popcorn for supper!

Today, we will have a late breakfast with mamaw at Bob Evans, come back home and chill out with more board games and PS2.

We are going through a book with the boys about "How to Study Your Bible" from Precept Ministries.  Each day of our "vacation", we have spent a chunk of time going through this book and trying to apply it to biblical study.  To this point, it has been great.  We are all learning much from this resource.  It's our prayer that the boys have a desire to truly "know" God's word through practical study.

My wife

Please pray for Lora.  She has injured her lower back.

Much has been happening for us all.  The 3 boys went to visit my brother in Naples, Fl.

I have been preparing myself to be a Field Training Officer for our department.  I take a test tomorrow and have an interview with the FTO board.

Just wanted to say "hey" to everyone.  HEY!

Sorry for such a large gap in time between entries.

Grace and Peace.

Hello & Random Thoughts

Just wanted to say, "Hello" to everyone.  I am really looking forward to Spring.  Anyone with me on this???  I love daylight savings.  Going to work in the evening is so great when it is still light outdoors.

The boys are rolling their way through school.  They have an opportunity to go to Florida for Springbreak.  They will travel with my folks and spend a few days with the "Florida Beams".  Lora and I are also looking forward to them getting to go.  We have a few plans of our own!

We had a great evening with Nathan and Rachel this past week-end.  They had us over for dinner and fellowship.  They are so fun and we look forward to spending more time with them.  The following was weird though....... Nathan is renting the same house that my sister-in-law and her husband used to live in....I had a little deja vu.

Oh well, I have to run.  Time to change shifts here at work.

A Day Off Work

An inmate came up to me tonight and asked me "So what was good today?  Give me something good."  I thought for a second then responded to him.  I told him that I first woke up this morning with my arm around my wife.  We both got up today and fed all of our livestock together.  We then walked about our property (and the neighbor's) for about 45 minutes.  We had great conversation and the time went quickly.  We then enjoyed breakfast with the boys.  Coffee, eggs and bagels were our fuel for the morning.  After breakfast I retreated to my garage, Jeffrey's Garage, to work on the minivan.  To my dismay, something that I had set up the previous day to "dry" was not yet ready and kept me from advancing the repair of the vehicle.  I then reported back to my bride about my current progress on the van and then she invited me to accompany her and the boys the university for their piano lessons and lunch.  I couldn't resist the offer.  I took study materials for my Sunday school class.  I was able to study while the boys had their lessons.  When they were finished we "bee-lined" for the Hive on campus for lunch.  Daniel bought me a "stinger" which is a chicken sandwich with hot wing sauce.  WOW!!  Was that a special treat.  After lunch, we went over to the new Greene County Library branch in Cedarville.  I ran into a friend there and we discussed the positives and negatives of a new ministry at church.  (I, of course, focused on the positives.)  After we parted ways, I checked out a few music CD's.  Lora surprised me with checking out a movie, which we took home and watched.  Even though she tried to convince me to take a short nap before work, I just wasn't up to it.  So I have been awake since 7:30 am yesterday morning.  Anyway, even though I had to come into work this evening, it was like I had the day off.  It was great spending time with the ones I love.  My family is a great blessing to me.

p.s. sorry for not posting for such a long time.  please forgive.

Cold, Cold, Cold

I am just making an entry here so that it may be a reminder to me of how cold the past week has been.  The past 8-10 days the outside temperature has hoovered around 0 degrees.  It has warmed up in the daytime to around 10 above then drops to around 10 below in the evenings.  We have burnt a lot of wood in the last few days.  I woke up this morning at the temp inside the house was 52 degrees!  I didn't get up in the night to chuck up the wood stove...ooops.  Fortunately our pipes didn't freeze up.  However, today the outside temp was in the low 20's.  What a warming trend!
